How Liberals Lie

And The Other Ways America is Being Duped

This is an on-going series of instances of how Liberals are trying to pull one over on America. My first example is Proposition 56, which at this writing has not been voted on yet in the March elections.

In California, if the government wants to raise taxes, they must get a 2/3 majority in the state legislature. Proposition 56 want to lower the threshold to 55% of the vote.

Simple enough. In general, Democrats need this because they need more money to fund their social programs. I have no problem with propositions that want to make it easier to raise taxes, because I get to vote it down. My problem is the way liberals are trying to hide the issue.

Here is the Problem With Liberals, Fact #1: Liberals can not win on the merit of the issues. They need to sneak their agenda under the noses of Americans.

What the Proponents Say:

. REFORM THE BUDGET PROCESS AND ENDS GRIDLOCK
Changes the vote required to adopt the state budget and related tax legislation from 2/3 to 55%. Currently, Rhode Island and Arkansas are the only other states to routinely require a vote of 2/3 or more to pass a budget and the federal budget is passed by just a simple majority.

The 55% required by Prop 56 will require consensus and will help break the gridlock we face today.

Why can't liberals just state the facts of what they want? Instead of saying that they need more flexibility to raise taxes, they hide the wording in their advertising. The liberals say they want to end gridlock. They're right making it easier to raise taxes would end gridlock. Sure they throw in the carrot of not paying legislators for late budgets.

IMAGINE THIS: It's the day the budget is due and legislators are about to work without pay. They need an additional $1 billion to fund their social programs. Instead of cutting down the bureaucracy, to find money, all they have to due is add new taxes to the budget. Passed. Go Home. Californians Screwed.

The Impact: The Democrats had a hard time passing a budget because they couldn't raise taxes, they were forced to run deficits. They want more money to fund their programs and need the ability to raise taxes. Now it would be easier to raise taxes if they reduce the threshold to 55% because they think they'll keep the majority in the legislature.
